Most of you are enjoying the computer life. It's made our life easier,

but some of you are suffering with this modern tool's behavior.

Here are some basic tips (mostly for PC-Users) for how to prevent a major disaster:

    1.     When you acquire your new System, make sure to register it to the Vendor for

            Support & Warranty ASAP.

    2.     Next, locate Vendor supplied System-Restore (or Recovery) Discs.  If you don't

find them, turn on computer; when Windows Desktop boots up,

Go to Start -> Programs. Look for "Recovery Disc Creator Utility" (or similar title)

and follow instructions to create recovery discs.

You may need a couple of DVD-Rs

or 7~8 CD-Rs.  When finished with this task, store discs in a safe place

(These are the most important Discs for your Computer) ask you to provide

this set of discs with system. We suggest you keep all computer software When

disaster hits your system, technician will & related documents in one location

only - a box or a bag - for normal daily operation they are not needed.

    3.    For those of us living on the Oregon coast, a High-Grade Surge Suppressor is an

absolute must.  We have unpredictable power conditions and lightening.

I'm using 2,900-Joules rated and luckily have never had a problem yet -knock on

wood!Remember a surge suppressor is not an iron-clad protection; it can get hit

            by surge too.

    4.    Don't forget to install Internet Security Software before you log-on to the Internet.

I will post more Good-ideas & Bad-practices in the near future.

Ok, Ok.. Let's ENJOY! Cyber life!!

If you are looking for some free software, make sure to get them from trusted

websites like www.cnet.com or www.pcmag.com and always read the site's

            Editor's Opinions before installing them.

Remember nothing is really FREE....many of them have contained SPYWARE.
